Trekking in Bhutan offers
stunning landscape, incredible virgin forests, unique flora
and fauna and stunning panoramas of the Eastern Himalayas.
Treks vary from short and easy three-day walk through
picturesque villages of Bumthang region (Bhutan
Cultural Trek), one of the most spectacular
valleys in Bhutan and also the heartland of Bhutanese
culture, to an exceptionally demanding 3-week trek that
covers some 350 km and climbs three of the Kingdom's highest
passes, traversing the remote Lunana region (Snowman
Trek).
Those with limited time should
consider a moderate trek (Gangtey
Trek) through the stunning Phobjikha valley, a
glacial valley with gently sloping hillsides that is the
winter home of black-necked cranes that migrate from the
harsh plains of Tibet to Phobjikha to winter in milder
climate.
If you are physically fit and
prefer more challenging route, consider a short five day
trek, which leads from Paro to Thimphu or the other way
round, crossing the chain of mountains that separates the
two valleys (Druk Path).
For those that crave fabulous
mountain panorams and exceptional alpine flora, a superb
eight-day trek leads into the land of yak-herders and to the
base of Mount Chomolhari (Chomolhari
Trek).
Demanding but absolutely
exhilarating experience is to trek across high mountain
passes into the world of snow peaks, glacial lakes, herds of
blue sheep, alpine blossoms and home of the hospitable
Layaps (Laya Gasa Trek).
Slightly shorter trek that takes about ten days and goes
from the sub-tropical Punakha valley too brings you up to
the high Laya region where yak herders live at the foot of
the 7,200m Mount Masangang (Masa
Gang Trek). Both treks offer the taste of Laya,
where women wear black yak-hair costumes and esoteric,
conical bamboo hats.
Should you want to marvel at
Bhutan’s highest mountain, the mighty Gangkar Puensum, then
follow what used to be an important and ancient trade route
to Tibet, too one of the most demanding treks in Bhutan,
leading into high alpine pasturelands and said one of
Bhutan's most spectacular valleys (Gangkar
Puensum Trek).
No matter which trek you may choose, you'll experience
Bhutan's incredible beauty, clean air and pristine trails.
On all our treks you walk hands free, perhaps with only your
camera and water bottle, yaks and horses will carry your
personal effects group camping gear. Your trekking guide and
camping staff takes care of everything, from setting up the
tents to serving up three sumptuous meals a day, as well as
tea and biscuits in the afternoon, providing for an
exhilarating and memorable journey.
