Western Bhutan Road & Off-Road
Bicycle Challenge
7
nights/8 days
Most biking trips in Bhutan follow paved roads.
While road trips may appear easy to some, the
mountain terrain and high altitude will provide
a challenge even to the experienced cyclist.
However, the more adventurous have the option of
making side excursions for more "off-the-road"
adventures and this is the itinerary that
includes some of the most challenging routes.
Head off the beaten track up a little visited
side valley off road at Dob Shari alongside the
Do Chhu, climb to the Chele La, ride the narrow
trail along the Po Chu to Samdingkha, romp the
single-track descent to the ancient temples at
Norbugang and more.
DAY 1: Arrive in
PARO, ready your bikes and head off the beaten
track to stretch legs and acclimatize
DAY 2: PARO (Hike to TAKTSANG Monastery)
DAY 3: Paro to Chele La and back to Paro via
Gorina
DAY 4: PARO TO THIMPHU, bike to Talakha
monastery at 3,300 meters via Simtokha
DAY 5: THIMPHU – PUNAKHA, climb up to the Dochu
La (3050m), an ascent of 22km and an elevation
gain of 670 meters
DAY 6: PUNAKHA – Challenging climb to the Royal
villages of Talo through pine forests is
followed by an amazing single-track descent to
the ancient temples at Norbugang
DAY 7: PUNAKHA TO PARO - cycle down to Lobeysa
and start climbing to Dochula Pass, continue
back to Paro
DAY 8: Depart Bhutan
